Very nice write up for this young man. I did not know him, but this about brought tears. I have two children as well and cannot imagine the pain this family is experiencing. A young life cut way too short. My thoughts are with them. May they find peace in this madness.

It was really close to our house. My son will be skateboarding that intersection when he is older. My heart breaks for his mother. We drive by his memorial every time we leave our house.

Beautiful. As the mother of a gentle giant ( we call him our big bubba) I can’t imagine what this family is going thru. May this sweet baby rest in paradise until the day he May see his loved ones again.

There is a small memorial at the accident site now with flowers candles etc. A small group of folks is meeting there at 1:00pm Friday to remember Wyatt.

As a friend of Wyatt, I just wanted to thank you for not treating his death as another statistic when you wrote this article. When we here about children and teenagers dying at young ages like he has, we don’t realize how much the people around them are effected. Then hit hits close to home. Once someone you know and care for passes, you realize how many other people go through this. That the deaths they’ve dealt with were just used as examples of why we should be more careful, but they are real people. They have family and friends that are heartbroken, but nobody ever recognizes that. Wyatt had dreams and goals. He never got the chance to have a family of his own. He never went to a highschool dance or Prom. He never got to play football for his highschool. He never got the opprotunity to go to college. He was a real person who missed out on all of these life experiences. Thank you so much for thinking about that when you wrote this article. He isn’t just ” a youth” or a “pedestrian” as I’ve read in other articles. My friends and I truly appreciate you treating him like the 14 year old boy he was. Thank you

We were approaching the intersection and saw all the cars slowing down. The cops had blocked off the north lane. Unfortunately we saw the person still lying in the street. So very sad. I hope they can change the arrow to reflect when pedestrian are crossing. I can’t imagine losing a child.

This is so sad. I lost touch with theresa and her family when Ryan and Dominic went to different high schools but my prayers go out to them. So so sad.
Nicely done, I keep thinking about my own son who spent his summer 2 years ago skateboarding around the Valley. I used to worry so much about this very thing happening to him. My heart breaks for this mother and the rest of the family.

Gone too soon
Thank you Kris for the beautiful story you wrote about our Gentle Giant. It does not feel real. We had literally dozens of broken hearted young men come to our house, each kid hugging, each kid telling one by one that Wyatt was their best friend, it takes a very special person to make everyone feel so loved, so special and I am overwhelmed with the love these young men and women, the babies of our community shared with our family and I am heart broken for these children, it just doesn’t register quite yet, maybe it hurts too much. Thank you for the article, thank you for being human. There will be a candle light ceremony planned, there will be a church service, then burial service and a celebration get together and we will provide the details as we get them. Thank you to all of you for the kind words. I have two older children a 20 year old daughter and 18 year old son and I’d ask that you keep them and all those lucky enough to have known Wyatt in your prayers. He was beautiful, we are so honored to have had the privilege of having him in our lives, as our Gentle Giant, our precious son. My heart cannot believe it, or accept it but mu mind tells the truth. May the man that killed my son find comfort in his family. I want to hate him but that is not in my makeup. Pray for him for self forgiveness. Teresa Savaikie
Kris, thank you for your sensitive approach and caring tribute to Wyatt. My heart breaks for the Savaikie family who have had to endure so much and now suffer this great tragedy. From the comments posted here, I see that others have also suffered the loss of a child. To you as well, I offer my thoughts and prayers.
I wish this was just a horrible nightmare but it’s not. No words to describe our deep pain and sadness that we are feeling for the family. Why did this have to happen to Wyatt?? I don’t understand and never will. He was only 14-years-old!! His mom, Teresa, is a very close friend of mine. Wyatt was their youngest son, their baby. Wyatt was a very outgoing little boy. He was very witty, bubby, sweet, loving and caring boy. He had a beautiful smile. I look back at the time when for the first time, Wyatt’s parents, gave him permission to ride his bicycle back home from school (it was a school minimum day)! I pull up to 7 eleven, and who do I see standing there with a look that read, oh boy I’m in trouble, Wyatt! In his hands he was holding an energy drink and a slurpee! I said to him, “Little low in sugar”, he gave me a big smile. When I walked out of the store he asked me to please not tell his mom. He looked so cute and happy!! He was enjoying himself. Having a really good time. I had to tell his mom, because I knew she wouldn’t be upset that he was eating all this sweets. We were laughing so much. Very fortunate to have known, Wyatt. I will forever treasure all the good memories that my children and I have of Wyatt. Rest In Peace, Wyatt . We will pray to God to give the family the strength that they need to get through this.

Wonderfully written article regarding a teenager whom many have read about in the past couple of days, but who many did not know. As parents, so many of us are saddened by this. We can only imagine what his parents are feeling right now. I have 5 grandchildren now, so my own children are well past his age but my grandchildren will be there soon and I cannot fathom the grief I would feel. Praying for his family at this time.

I keep finding myself coming back to this article and reading all the warm and loving comments. Somehow it is soothing to the soul when the soul and heart is not ready to accept the reality. We know in our minds that this is real but in our hearts we have not been able to fully accept it, not able to open it up to the sure pain that is there lingering, coming out from time to time and yet trying hard to believe its not true. Thank you all for your kind words as they are soothing to my heart. May you all hold those you love a little closer, not just today but everyday. Wyatt and I told each other we loved each other just before he left for the gym. Still it is not real.
