SCV Transportation: Where Money and Politics Meets the Road

The quality of life in the Santa Clarita Valley is dependent on many things. Transportation – our ability to move people, goods and services from one point to another – is one of those things. In fact, it is a major factor in shaping our lives. It provides the means for getting to work, school, health care facilities, and recreational opportunities, moving building materials, as well as medical and defense equipment. It also allows us to bring film equipment and personnel to shoot locations, to supply retailers with merchandise, to provide timely delivery of fresh ingredients to restaurants; we rely on it for emergency services and ensuring public safety.

Setting the right transportation priorities is important. Timely investment of limited resources in the right infrastructure and equipment is critical to creating and maintaining a safe, efficient transportation system.
But how are transportation priorities determined? Who decides what gets funded? And how do we pay for roads, bridges and public transit now and in the future?
Join us for a panel discussion that will include a review of current and planned transportation projects in and around the Santa Clarita Valley and a lively discussion of the process and the public’s role in it.
VIA has brought together local experts who help identify project needs, find funding sources, set policy and implement transportation improvements in our valley. They will shed some light on this complex topic and provide their insights on the challenges and opportunities we face.
Panelists:
Ian Pari, Senior Traffic Engineer, City of Santa Clarita
Arthur Sohikian, President, AVS Consulting
Mark Dierking, Community Relations Manager, L.A. County Metropolitan Transit Authority
Moderator:
Victor Lindenheim, Executive Director, Golden State Gateway Coalition
