The College of the Canyons men’s soccer team continued its high-scoring attack on Friday, as the Cougars netted four goals and posted a shutout to defeat conference opponent Citrus College 4-0 on Friday.
The Cougars (2-4-2, 2-2-1) have now scored four goals in back-to-back games and 11 in the last three matches.
The scoring frenzy comes on the heels of COC being shutout in three straight contests from Sept. 5-18.
Canyons found the net early and often against Citrus (1-7-1, 1-4-0) with sophomore forward Andy Ruiz getting the action started less than three minutes into the game.
Ruiz would continue the assault with his second goal in the 25th minute, on an assist from Oscar Sanchez.
Head coach Phil Marcellin and the Cougars took a 2-0 lead into the second half, but were still looking for more.
In the final 45 minutes of play it was freshman forward Iban Alaniz who shined brightest.
Alaniz was able to put a ball past the Owl goaltender in the 54th minute, thanks to an assist from Adrian Arguello, to make it 3-0.
Twelve minutes later, Alaniz netted his second goal of the game, and third of the season, to but Canyons comfortably ahead at 4-0. Nico Ferrero was credited with an assist on the play.
Canyons will return home to host conference opponent Oxnard College at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, under the lights at Cougar Stadium.
