College of the Canyons will be hosting its biannual Job & Career Fair with various companies featuring new job openings for Santa Clarita residents looking to gain experience in their field of interest.
“(Companies will feature) anywhere form entry level positions to more executive positions,” said Gina Bogna, Assistant Dean of Internship, Job Development, and Career Center at College of the Canyons.
Located on the Valencia campus, the Job & Career Fair will showcase four of the biggest employers in Santa Clarita including Magic Mountain, Princess Cruises, Boston Scientific, and the City of Santa Clarita. Each business will hold a forty-five minute workshop and a Q&A towards the end of each session to inform job seekers on what they are looking for in employees.
“We’ll have a wide range of employers from the hospitality industry, healthcare, public safety, marketing, education and more.” said Bogna. “Your resume should speak to a specific industry. It shouldn’t be so broad that you would want to go anywhere with a single resume.”
Advance America, one of the companies being featured at the Job & Career Fair on Oct. 14, 2015, is a financial company that provides banking services, consumer finance and specialty retailing. Employers are looking to hire students with an interest in finance and a desire to build their career alongside advisors who will train and develop them into successful individuals.
Officials from the Marine Corps will also attend the event to promote their programs and specialized training schools for residents interested in pursuing a career as a Marine. Assignments will vary and give students a balance of command experience, combat experience and joint staff appointments.
Employers from Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, a non-profit community hospital and trauma center, will also be featured at the Job Fair and will be looking for new recruits wanting to follow a career in health care.
In regards to the companies attending the event, Bogna mentioned that “we are focusing on some of the heavy hitters this year” to give residents a wide variety of options at the Job & Career Fair.
Approximately 100 businesses are expected to attend the event with a wide range of career opportunities.
