The local charity Forged By Fire Foundation is co-hosting Finish The Ride Santa Clarita – a ride, run, walk and roll athletic event and expo at Heritage Park Valencia on April 30 at 8 a.m.
Finish The Ride Santa Clarita is the latest installment of the successful Finish The Ride event series that has taken place in Griffith Park and the San Fernando Valley. Participants of Finish The Ride can choose from running/walking or cycling routes geared towards various ability levels and interests. The Santa Clarita event will include 5k, 10k and chip-timed half marathon, running/walking distances as well as a family fun walk around the park. Also included are 2 cycling routes. The 25-mile route will take riders on a tour of some of Santa Clarita’s fantastic pedestrian paths. The chip-timed 55-mile half-century ride will allow riders to experience some of Santa Clarita’s renowned canyon riding. It includes 3500 feet of elevation gain to challenge more experienced riders. Support will be provided at various points along the course of each event.
Also occurring at the event will be an expo featuring local and regional businesses and nonprofits. Food vendors and a beer garden featuring beer by Pocock Brewing Company round out the event. Finish The Ride Santa Clarita is looking for additional sponsors and expo vendors/displays. All local businesses, nonprofit organizations and military/veteran groups are encouraged to contact Kevin Korenthal at the e-mail address or phone number above. Vendors and sponsors that choose to support more than 1 of the 2016 Finish The Ride events will be able to take advantage of savings while receiving greater regional exposure.
Participants of Finish The Ride, Run, Walk & Roll will receive a free swag bag and finisher medal, in addition to the satisfaction of supporting 2 great causes while finishing the ride, run, walk and roll of their choice.
About Finish The Ride
On Feb. 17, 2013, Damian Kevitt was hit on his bicycle and dragged under a minivan onto and down the 5 freeway for nearly a quarter mile before he fought his way free. The perpetrator was never caught. Despite losing a leg, breaking over 20 bones and enduring 11 surgeries, Damian vowed to not only Finish the Ride but use his message to help prevent others from suffering similar and all-too-common hit-and-run crimes. One year later, on April 27,2014, Damian Finished the Ride along with close to 1,000 participants, 100 volunteers, dozens of sponsors and federal, state and local officials.
