The County of Los Angeles Community and Senior Services, in coordination with County Supervisors Don Knabe, Chair Woman, Hilda L. Solis, and in collaboration with the City of Los Angeles and other private partners, officially committed 15,000 jobs to the Los Angeles Summer Youth Employment program. 15,000 youth between the ages of 14 to 21 will embark on a pathway to earn meaningful work experience towards a potential career and develop into the future workforce of the Los Angeles region.

Supervisor Knabe has been a champion in supporting LA County’s Youth Jobs since 2006 and continues to be a leader in creating more funding and job opportunities for the County’s youth.

“An opportunity is all these kids want—a chance to show their skills and work hard—and since 2006, we’ve worked with our partners in the private, public and non-profit sectors to make these opportunities possible,” said Supervisor Don Knabe. “Thank you to all the businesses and organizations across Los Angeles County for giving our kids a chance to prove themselves and start on their paths to a successful career.”

“I am very pleased that the County of Los Angeles is in collaboration with the City of Los Angeles to provide such an enormous commitment to our region’s youth with career exposure and employment opportunities that can make a lifelong impact for the participants and their communities,” said Supervisor Hilda Solis, Chair of the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors. “I can relate through my own experiences that when communities come together with a deep desire to invest in their youth, it is truly an investment in the leaders of the future.”

Today’s press conference reinforces the County’s ongoing commitment to regional efforts that meet the employment and educational needs of the County’s youth, particularly those who are both out of school and out of work.

“It is an honor for our department to lead the County’s Youth Employment Programs,” stated Cynthia D. Banks, Director of Los Angeles County Community and Senior Services. “Our summer youth programs provide an opportunity for young people to have their first exposure to the labor market.”
