Two Lancaster deputies saved an elderly woman from a home that was on fire in Stevenson Ranch on Sunday morning.
Deputies Shane Dobra and Alex Smith from Lancaster Station Response Team responded to the Santa Clarita area to assist with evacuations during the Sage Fire on Sunday, July 10.
At approximately 6 a.m. both deputies were alerted by a citizen that a house in the 25000 block of Dogwood Court appeared to be on fire.
Deputy Dobra and Deputy Smith located the residence and saw that a fire was quickly spreading across the front of the home toward the front door. Both Deputies knocked repeatedly at the front door. Finally, an elderly woman answered the door and was shocked to hear her house was on fire.
The two deputies escorted the woman from her home to a safe area outside. The woman suddenly ran back inside the burning residence. The two deputies saw the fire was increasing intensely and quickly approaching the front door area.
Deputies Dobra and Deputy Smith entered the burning residence in an attempt to locate and rescue the woman from her home. They located the woman in the rear bedroom with intense heat, where she been overcome with panic and fell to the floor. The deputies helped her off the floor, and escorted her outside.
The elderly woman was treated by LA County Fire for smoke inhalation and a minor injury to her knee.
