On Aug. 1, at approximately 8:44 p.m., CHP’s Los Angeles Communications Center began receiving a series of 911 calls reporting a vehicle verses object and also pedestrian on the ground in the northbound No. 1 and 2 lanes of Interstate 5. However, the callers provided several different locations.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also received 911 calls.  Units from CHP, LASD and Los Angeles County Fire Department began to look for the pedestrian.

At approximately 8:56 p.m., CHP Newhall Area Sergeant Reyes located a deceased pedestrian on northbound I-5 just north of the lower crossover, which is in an unincorporated area of Castaic.

The pedestrian was deceased and initial information indicates that the pedestrian had been struck by several vehicles.  One of the vehicles which struck the pedestrian remained at the scene, and the driver reported the collision via 911.  No other vehicle stopped at the scene.

All of the northbound lanes were briefly closed and at 2108 hours the northbound No. 4 lane was opened.  The northbound No. 1, 2, and 3 lanes are closed for the investigation.  ENTAC received notification through LACC at approximately 9:50 p.m. The collision received local media attention.

Not sure why it’s being reported this way. CHP took the call as a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. This story makes it sound as though a dead body just appeared on the freeway.

I continued driving up the old rd to get an idea of just how bad traffic was going to be and realized that they had completely stopped it so I pulled over on the side along with a bunch of other people… You could see the body from the side of the road on the way to double c. Took me a little bit to figure out what I was looking at and it immediately made me sick to my stomach. Rip to that poor man ? I just can’t understand why he was on the freeway in the first place.
