Poole & Shaffery LLP announced the opening of an office in the San Diego area effective Aug. 1.

Located in the heart of San Diego’s downtown area and walking distance to transportation, state and federal courthouses, this is the sixth office for the California-based firm. Other offices include Santa Clarita, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County and Walnut Creek. The address for the San Diego office is 501 West Broadway, Suite 800, San Diego, CA 92101, and can be reached by calling (619) 400-4852.

“San Diego is the third busiest market in California for civil lawsuits,” said John Shaffery, partner and co-founder of Poole & Shaffery. “By opening an office in the San Diego area, we are better positioned to serve our existing and prospective clients with their business transaction and litigation needs.”

California recorded 1.2 million incoming state court civil caseloads in 2010, according to CourtStatistics.org. San Diego ranked third following Los Angeles and San Francisco/Oakland, which placed in the two top spots respectively. Nationally, civil cases accounted for over 18% of the 103.5 million incoming cases processed in state trial courts.

Tens of thousands more civil lawsuits were filed in federal courts, according to the 2015-2016 Judicial Hellholes report. The report cited California as the epicenter for lawyers bringing disability access lawsuits against small businesses and class action lawsuits against food and beverage companies. In 2015, 808 new state laws were enacted. As a result, businesses can’t possibly stay abreast of the many hundreds of new statutes and attendant rules enacted by lawmakers and regulators each year to know what’s legal and what isn’t, according to the report.

Poole & Shaffery recruits key attorneys with experience in large national and international firms. The firm has garnered a reputation throughout California for providing professional, effective legal representation in litigationbusiness counseling, and transactional services including contract law, product liability, general liability, transportation, trade secrets, intellectual property, and defending consumer class action lawsuits.

“As defense attorneys, our firm continues to experience growth within the areas we serve and Poole & Shaffery is aggressively adding highly-talented legal professionals to our team and new offices to accommodate demand,” Shaffery stated.
