Playing for the first time on Reese Field this season, The Master’s University women’s soccer team battled No. 10 Vanguard University in both teams’ Golden State Athletic Conference opener Wednesday afternoon.
Unfortunately, a lone Vanguard goal at the 3:48 mark spoiled TMU’s home/conference opener as the Lady Mustangs were unable to respond for the rest of the match.
The loss moved TMU’s 2016 record to 4-3-1 and 0-1 in GSAC play.
TMU’s Michaela Rickard (Santa Clarita, CA) paced the Lady Mustangs’ offensive efforts by launching three shots and one shot on goal, while Stephanie Albright (Upland, CA) tallied a pair of shots and shots on goal.
“It was a tough loss today,” commented TMU head coach Curtis Lewis. “I thought we did enough in the first half to get a goal. We moved the ball around well at moments, but just didn’t have the final touch. We wore down in the second half and couldn’t really take control of the game. Vanguard did enough to win today day, and we will have to refocus as we play a very good Biola on Tuesday.”
The Lady Mustangs’ schedule provides them a weekend off of competition to prepare for a road match against No. 11 Biola University. Next Tuesday, TMU will travel to La Mirada for a 7:00 p.m. match against the GSAC’s only undefeated team.
