Hundreds of Santa Clarita residents gathered to hold a candlelight vigil for Sgt. Steve Owen at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Saturday.
“Tonight was absolutely touching. I had chills running through my body the whole night.” said a Facebook post from Katy Sharbonow. “Filled with pride, admiration and love from our community. Thank you Kari, Ray, and the whole team, and much love to the Owen family.”

A capital murder charge was filed Friday against the parolee for the alleged execution-style shooting death of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steven Owen, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Trenton Trevon Lovell, 27, faces one count of murder with the special circumstance allegations of murder for the purpose of avoiding or preventing a lawful arrest and murder of a peace officer.
On Oct. 6, Lovell is accused of shooting Owen, 53, multiple times shortly after the deputy arrived at the 3200 block of West Avenue J-7 to respond to a burglary call. Lovell allegedly then jumped into the sergeant’s patrol vehicle while a second deputy arrived at the scene, prosecutors said.
The defendant is charged with ramming the second deputy’s vehicle with Owen’s patrol car. Lovell then allegedly fled into a nearby residence where he held two victims at knifepoint, prosecutors added. Deputies arrested the defendant soon after.
Lovell is being held without bail.

This is just copied from KHTS…. however, I’d like to point out that this article leaves out some information.
First, there were well over 200 community members, friends, and family members of SGT Owen there Saturday night.
SCV TV had a wonderful reporter there, and he was up front, taking video the entire time.
There were deputies, and LASD personnel present, and a fellow sergeant spoke.
Sgt Owen’s brother spoke, and gave a wonderful statement.
Volunteers, loved ones, and co-worker’s stayed long after the vigil and shared stories, and an honorable man, and public servant was memorialized in a very touching manner.
“Dozens” of people came early to help pass out supplies.
We, as a community, respect and support our law enforcement, and I feel like this article cheapens the effort.
We will be posting our video to accompany this article later today, thank you for your feedback!
I want to reiterate that your young reporter was extremely professional, and blended well with our community. It was clear that he was invested in getting a story while being considerate and helpful.
Thank you so much, we think Antonio Curiel is a great part of our team!
