The Master’s University volleyball team beat William Jessup University in three sets (25-16, 25-16, 26-24) Saturday afternoon on Bross Court.
With the win, TMU’s 2016 record improved to 16-9 and 8-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Saturday’s first two sets went by fairly quickly as TMU posted back-to-back 25-16 victories. However, set three featured five tied scores and four lead changes. With the score locked at 24-24, kills from Aubrey Pyburn and Morgan Koch closed the third set at 26-24 and secured TMU’s 16th win of the season.
Maryah Richberg had an outstanding afternoon by leading TMU’s offensive attack with 15 kills and posting three blocks. Elsewhere, Pyburn claimed 11 kills, while Kayla Sims tallied 39 assists and led TMU with 10 digs.
“I was very impressed with how our upperclassman led the team today,” commented TMU head coach Allan Vince. “Having lost to William Jessup earlier this season, typically, teams will rally around the idea that the next time they meet, they have to win at all costs and the emotions drive the play. However, today’s match showed our girls as composed, consistent, and passionate to battle. That brought joy to the court. I like seeing that, and I feel that when we can win within those circumstances, it strengthens our program tremendously.”
Now, TMU prepares for a week of road matches as the Lady Mustangs take on Arizona Christian on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Phoenix, Arizona. Then, on Saturday, the Lady Mustangs will play San Diego Christian in El Cajon at 7:30 p.m.
