The College of the Canyons women’s golf team competed at Western State Conference Tournament No. 8 on Monday, with two Lady Cougars finishing in the top-15.
The event was held at Simi Hills Golf Course, and attracted a field of 29 golfers representing seven schools.
COC sophomore Amanda Horri was the top finisher for Canyons after carding a score of 84 to finish tied for eighth place.
Horri, who won medalist honors at WSC Tourney No. 6 at Bakersfield earlier this month, currently sits in ninth place in the individual conference standings.
She is averaging 84.43 strokes per round this season, having played in seven of eight conference events.
COC freshman Aeleen Brott finished her round with a score of 88 to place 14th at Monday’s event.
Brott is currently the conference’s 11th ranked player, averaging 88 strokes per round through eight events.
Those scores have both golfers poised for a run at next week’s WSC Finals, being held at Crystalaire Golf Course in Llano — and perhaps beyond.
“Both Amanda and Aeleen have a strong chance of advancing to the regional finals,” said COC head coach Gary Peterson.
The WSC Finals will consist of 36 holes played over two days on Oct. 30-31.
The 2016 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Championships will be held Nov. 7-8 at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
The 2016 CCCAA State Championships will be held Nov. 13-14, at Morro Bay Golf Course.
