The Master’s University women’s cross country team looks to claim its first-ever conference title on Saturday at the 2016 GSAC Championships, hosted by William Jessup University. The women’s 5K is slated to begin at 9 a.m. at Johnson Springview Park in Rocklin.
The Lady Mustangs enter Saturday’s race ranked No. 6 in the NAIA and second in the GSAC behind Biola University (No. 2 NAIA). The Lady Mustangs are very familiar with Saturday’s field of competitors, having already faced seven of their eight conference opponents.
Senior harrier Morgan Pedrick, who earned All-GSAC honors for the first time in 2015, has led the Lady Mustangs in all four of their regular-season races this year. Pedrick’s fastest time came on October 21 when she placed sixth out of a field of 90 competitors with a final time of 17:54 at the Titan Invitational 5k. On October 1, Pedrick placed fourth out of 143 runners with a time of 17:58 at The Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita. Notably, Pedrick’s performances in October earned her the title of the GSAC’s Female Runner of the Month.
Last season, TMU placed second out of nine teams at the conference championship with a final time of 1:34:34.38. Before that, TMU placed second at the GSAC Championships in 2014 and 2013.
