Stevenson Ranch: Zone 3, Public Safety Report for the week of 01/30/17 to 02/05/17
The following crimes were reported last week in Stevenson Ranch (Zone 3)

01/31/17
Burglary (Vehicle) – 25300 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole his laptop computer and law enforcement badge (U.S. Marshal #554). Total loss was $700.00.
Forgery (Checks) – 25500 Burns Place
Person(s) unknown stole a pre-written check for $80.00 from the victim’s home, and deposited it into an unknown account.

02/01/17
Burglary (Commercial) – 25300 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown entered the unlocked conference room of the location and stole the victim’s digital projector, portable speakers, HDMI cable, and power strip. Total loss was $590.00.

02/02/17
Burglary (Vehicle) – 24900 Pico Canyon Road
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole his laptop computer and wallet containing his driver’s license, passport, and debit/credit cards. The victim stated his vehicle was locked. There were no signs of forced entry. Total loss was $1,265.00.
Petty Theft (Shoplifting) – 25600 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown stole numerous Superbowl decorations from the store. No arrests were made. Total loss was $284.00.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 27000 Fairway Lane
The victim was involved in a fight with three suspects in which they punched and kicked him several times to his head and body. All there suspects were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (hands, fists, feet).

02/03/17
Burglary (Vehicle), Felony Evading, Hit and Run w/Injury – 25500 The Old Road
A male adult smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and stole his laptop computer. The suspect was soon seen by patrol deputies attempting to leave the area. Upon deputies activating their lights and sirens, the suspect attempted to evade them by driving in a reckless manner. The suspect later collided with another vehicle, at which time a female adult exited the vehicle and attempted to run from the area. She was quickly detained by deputies and arrested. The male suspect continued to evade deputies in a reckless manner until his vehicle broke down, at which time he surrendered to deputies. Both suspect were arrested for burglary, evasion, and hit and run with injury.
Petty Theft – 25886 The Old Road
A male adult stole ten state lottery tickets from the location. No arrest was made. Total loss was $300.00.

02/05/17
Burglary (Vehicle) – 27500 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole his backpack containing two knives and a flashlight. Total loss was $350.00.
Burglary (Vehicle) – 25900 Franklin Lane
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole $20.00 in U.S. currency. The victim stated his vehicle was locked. There were no signs of forced entry.

Tip of the week: Avoiding Vehicle Burglaries
Most criminals who are looking to steal items from a vehicle are looking for the easy targets. Most commonly known as a ‘smash and grab’, the burglars are looking for high value items that are in plain sight which can be easily and quickly taken after finding an unlocked door or smashing a window. Imagine the costs and inconvenience of not only having to replace a smashed window, but also having to replace your driver’s license, credit/debit cards, laptop, cell phone, etc. Here are some great tips to help prevent being a victim of a vehicle burglary.

ALWAYS lock your vehicle when left unattended.
Never leave your wallet or purse in your vehicle and in plain view when leaving your vehicle unattended.
If you use a portable GPS, remove it from the dash or windshield and place it in your glovebox or trunk when leaving your vehicle unattended.
Never leave any high value items (laptops, cell phones, jewelry, tools) inside your vehicle in plain view while unattended. If you cannot carry those items with you, secure them in the trunk.
Use a sunscreen in your windshield, even at night or when parked in a parking structure. This makes it much harder for a burglar to look into your vehicle.
Remember: Vehicle burglars usually will not break into a vehicle with the intention of ‘searching’ it in hopes of finding something of value. This takes too long and the burglar risks being seen. If there is no easy opportunity that is readily available for a ‘smash and grab’ thief, they will more than likely pass your vehicle and look for a better target.
