JAM Session

Thursday, March 2, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Old Town Newhall Library

Combine jazz and hip-hop with modern and traditional Indian dance and you get the energetic sounds and movements of Bollywood. Twirl, twist and step with Achinta S. McDaniel and dancers from Blue13 Dance Company who make it easy to pick up the moves of this popular dance. Live music from two Dhol drummers and a DJ will keep the energy high!

JAM Sessions are fun, interactive music and dance events hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation. All JAMs are FREE, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. Wear comfortable clothes, shoes or bring a chair if you just want to relax while listening to the music.

10 by 10: Variety Night

Location: The MAIN, 24266 Main Street, Newhall 91321

Join us for 10 by 10, the FREE monthly variety show in Old Town Newhall.  10 by 10 features music, film, storytelling, magic, comedy and more! It occurs on the first Thursday of every month when ten performers, from a variety of genres, are selected to perform a 10-minute act of their choosing. Every month is different; you never know what you will see on stage! This event is held at The MAIN, formerly known as the Repertory East Playhouse.

Performing in March: Storytelling from Sharon Houston, Vicki Juditz, and Kim Kalish; Music from Alex Wand, Steve Messick, and The New Mexican; Comedy from Steve Saracino and Jeanne Whitney; Magic from Brian Hoffman; and the Film Short, “The Reinvention of Normal.” Visit the 10 by 10 website for performer bios.

Revved Up

It may not be Hot Import Nights, but you can still experience the import attraction as Tuner Imports invade Main Street for Revved Up, Thursday, March 9. Check out foreign makes such as Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Honda with performance upgrades, custom body kits and sound systems. Have a tuner import you want to show for this event? Sign up HERE.

Revved Up, presented by State Farm, is a free monthly car show that highlights a different car genre each month. Enjoy adult beverages for purchase from Persia Lounge, tasty grub from food trucks, and vote for your favorite car in the People’s Choice contest.

Note by Note: Songwriter’s Night

Listen to both well established and new and emerging singer songwriter’s at Note by Note, the FREE monthly songwriter’s night in Old Town Newhall. Note by Note is a chance for professional and aspiring songwriters to showcase their songs in front of a live audience and an opportunity for fans to hear new music. Each songwriter selected will perform four original songs of their own composition. This event is held at The MAIN, formerly known as the Repertory East Playhouse.

March’s featured performer is Kelly Zirbes. Growing up listening to her mother sing was Kelly’s inspiration to become a songwriter. She uses music to help ease the sorrows of the life she sees around her, to stay strong and to find a way to understand a life that sometimes makes no sense. Additional performers include Trish Lester and T.J. Sullivan.

SENSES

Thursday, March 16, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Location: Main Street between 6th Street and Market Street

May your day be touched by the Luck o’ the Irish! The SENSES block party is going green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Shamrocks, pots of gold, and lucky charms will fill Main Street in Old Town Newhall at this free evening of entertainment.  Dance the jig to Celtic rock music from Alehouse Fire, grub on gourmet food trucks, and enjoy the libations of green beer and whiskey from 8th & Rail.

The wildly popular SENSES Block Party, presented by Galpin Subaru, brings live music, food trucks, themed activities, and adult beverages to Main Street every Third Thursday from March to October.  Snap a photo at the Galpin Lounge, grab a drink from the on street bar, dance the night away to high energy performers, and order a bite from the food trucks or local restaurants. Don’t miss this fun and festive adult setting right here in Santa Clarita.

ARTree Speaker Series

Ignacio Gómez is an acclaimed artist, designer and sculptor whose images reflect prideful depictions of the Latino community, especially children and family. His works have been shown in New York, Europe, Japan and Mexico and many of his original paintings have become part of permanent corporate art collections. Ignacio is well known for painting the poster for “Zoot Suit,” the first Latino play on Broadway. He has been commissioned to produce a variety works which more recently included monuments and sculptures of Cesar E. Chavez. Come learn about Ignacio’s extensive body of work and how it influences and how it is influenced by the Latino community.
