1986 - COC board votes to allow Argentine cliff swallows to nest forever on sides of buildings [story]

According to the city of Santa Clarita’s vision for the year 2020, the next project on the books is about to become a reality: the groundbreaking for the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 on the southwest side of the bridge.

This multi-million dollar project will widen the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge over the San Francisquito Creek, providing an additional lane in each direction, a raised median and a protected sidewalk and bike trail. As part of the Building & Creating Community theme in the Santa Clarita 2020 plan, this project will cater to our growing community and support the great lifestyle residents already enjoy.

For additional information regarding the project, please contact Project Manager, Balvinder Sandhu at (661) 255-4954 or bsandhu@santa-clarita.com. To RSVP for the groundbreaking, please contact Shenil Walker at (661) 255-4939 or swalker@santa-clarita.com.

  1. why? it’s has not been an issue. I have never been stuck it traffic there and thought, why don’t they widen the bridge… but the thousands of pot holes everywhere do bother me like seco..

  2. Lyn O Lyn O'Kane says:

Potholes all over this valley, take care of those first

  3. Allie Veltri Allie Veltri says:

Hasn’t started yet, but I’d already like to know the projected end date for this.

  4. Kurt Buck Kurt Buck says:

Santa Clarita never had a vision for anything. A kindergartner could have designed the city better.

  5. Can they add another lane on Golden Valley from Sierra to Center Point Pkwy?

  6. From the looks of that photo, it appears that this project is long overdue! *snark^

  7. I’m wondering, too, why the need for widening? Traffic is horrible in many parts of theSCV, why, specifically, does this area need attention?

  8. Maria Cuadra Maria Cuadra says:

I’d like to see sidewalks on Copperhull north of Benz to David way. It’s awful. Looks so unfinished and with the amount of people that travel that way, it should be finished.

  9. One side of this bridge has no sidewalk or shoulder or bike lane of any kind so if you are a pedestrian, you can’t safely get over the bridge and the nearest places to cross to the other side are far away. Maybe thats what they are adding?

  10. Brian Geary Brian Geary says:

This is the bridge by Mcbean

  11. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

  12. They need to widen the bridge on The Old Road heading into Rye Canyon.

  13. so cal guy says:

.02 cents … The Old Road is County…call them and see if they put that little bridge in that new 30 Billion dollar budget plan they just announced (I agree that needs widening big time). Pot holes on San Fran…are also County.

City has a great on-line service request system, you see a pot hole that “could” cause damage…call them and I am pretty sure they will address it in a reasonable amount of time. I have used it and their response time was great. Just saying.

  14. Todd Crites Todd Crites says:

This has been long in the planning. The McBean bridge (by post office ) went first, this is second, and will look similar. It’s also about connecting bike paths, something way too long in the process to complete. Shocking to believe but still not enough residence / homes … therefore, property taxes and other taxes… to pay for the other stuff that’s needed. Plus still a huge issue attracting bigger businesses that’s needed to attract more development. Case n point: more development is in Canyon Country – off 14. With Disney coming that area will explode in growth but will only add to the congestion here in Valencia.
