Garrett Hampson homered and Carlos Polanco tossed five shutout innings to lead the JetHawks to a 4-0 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday night at The Hangar.
The JetHawks won the series three games to one. Polanco allowed just one hit in his five innings of work. Logan Cozart and Alexander Guillen each threw a pair of scoreless innings in relief to preserve the shutout, the first for Lancaster this season. Guillen earned his first save.
Hampson’s homer, his first of the season, led off the bottom of the third inning and opened the scoring. He is now 9-for-22 (.409) this season when leading off an inning.
The JetHawks added another run in the fourth. Mylz Jones led off with a triple that blew over the head of center fielder Yusniel Diaz. Roberto Ramos followed with an RBI ground out to bring home Jones. Jones, who finished 3-for-4 in the game, delivered an RBI single to increase the lead to 3-0 in the sixth. The JetHawks tacked on one more insurance run in the eighth.
Lancaster turned four double plays in the contest, including one to end the game. The JetHawks travel to Lake Elsinore on Friday night for the opener of a three-game series and seven-game road trip. Right-hander Craig Schlitter (1-0) will start for Lancaster against right-hander Pedro Avila (0-0). First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
