As part of National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 23 to 29, 2017, the city of Santa Clarita thanks the thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to the community. In 2016, the city attracted 6,626 volunteers who logged a combined 63,455 hours at events and programs in the Santa Clarita Valley, resulting in cost savings of more than $1.81 million.
Volunteers continue to play a vital role in Santa Clarita, assisting with the production and operation of special events, programs, special projects and youth sports in the city, among others. Most recently, close to 300 youth and adult volunteers helped at the 24th Annual Cowboy Festival, presented by Heritage Sierra Medical Group, at William S. Hart Park over the weekend.
City volunteers support a number of programs in the Santa Clarita Valley, including at community centers, libraries, City offices and in emergency communications. Volunteering is great for families, community groups and individuals wanting to make a difference in Santa Clarita. Residents are encouraged to follow on social media at Facebook.com/SantaClaritaVolunteers to receive notices for upcoming volunteer openings.
