Brian Mundell and Brendan Rodgers helped the Lancaster JetHawks to a five-run second inning and, ultimately, a 7-3 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday afternoon at San Manuel Stadium.
Mundell started the five-run second inning rally with a double off the left field wall. Roberto Ramos drove him home with a single for the first run of the game, and Wes Rogers brought home the second run with a sac-fly. Luis Pena (2-4) loaded the bases by issuing two walks and Rodgers cleared them with a triple to right-centerfield.
Jesus Tinoco (2-0) allowed two runs in the bottom of the second but recorded a quality start and picked up his second win. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits over six innings.
Mundell added to Lancaster’s lead with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning. The solo shot was his team-leading eighth long ball of the season.
Jake Yacinich answered for Inland Empire (22-22) in the bottom half of the inning with an inside-the-park home run.
The JetHawks (24-20) added their final run on a Yonathan Daza base-hit in the ninth inning.
Heath Holder, Sam Thoele and Marc Magliaro all threw scoreless innings of relief to end the game.
The series concludes on Monday at San Manuel Stadium. Craig Schlitter (6-0) is Lancaster’s probable starter. He’s scheduled to pitch against Jesus Castillo (1-1). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
