Santa Clarita residents are invited to enter the mind of artist Mike Farrell, a self-taught designer and illustrator, by strolling through his “Collected Drawings” art exhibit, now open through the month of June at The MAIN in Old Town Newhall.
Through use of various drawing tools such as graphite pencils, colored pencils, pen and ink and charcoal, Farrell creates a visual story reminiscent to storybook illustrations on paper.
The exhibit is free and open to residents during gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The MAIN (formerly Repertory East Playhouse) is located at 24266 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
Residents are invited to attend a free public art reception for “Collected Drawings” on Thursday, June 15 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The MAIN. Participants will enjoy light appetizers, entertainment and a chance to meet the artist.
“As a largely self-taught artist who has been scratching away on paper his whole life, I’ve always tried to bring intelligence, a sense of craft and a bit of humor to my work,” Farrell said. “I’ve always thought that the best teacher you can have is sitting at your table, concentrating on the drawing at hand. Hopefully, my drawings show the hours that go into their creation.”
