SAN JOSE – Peter Lambert tossed seven shutout innings and the Lancaster JetHawks broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning in a 4-0 win over the San Jose Giants at Municipal Stadium Monday night.
Lambert (4-5) tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts and did not issue a walk. He allowed only six hits and threw 70 of his 100 pitches for strikes.
The JetHawks (31-27) didn’t get Lambert a run until his seven innings were through. Mylz Jones led off the eighth inning against Giants (24-34) starter Mike Connolly (3-5) with a base-hit. It was one of three hits in the game for Jones. Chris Rabago bunted Jones to second, and he moved to third on a wild pitch.
Scott Burcham successfully laid down a bunt on a suicide squeeze to bring home Jones and give the JetHawks the lead, 1-0.
Brendan Rodgers added to the Lancaster lead in the eighth with a two-run home run. His ninth long ball of the season extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
Logan Cozart threw a scoreless eighth and Heath Holder threw a perfect ninth to end the game.
The shutout was the fifth of the season for the JetHawks.
