LANCASTER – The Inland Empire 66ers rallied back from a 7-2 deficit to earn a series split with a 13-10 victory over the JetHawks on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.
The JetHawks enter the final week of the first half with a one-game lead over Rancho Cucamonga and Lake Elsinore in the South Division.
After falling behind 7-2 through four innings, the 66ers scored the next nine runs of the game. Their big inning was a five-run sixth. Brendan Sanger and Cody Ramer, the bottom two hitters in the order, each went deep. Ramer finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
JetHawks Pitcher Peter Lambert took the loss for Lancaster Sunday.
Troy Montgomery opened the scoring with a solo homer leading off the second inning for Inland Empire, his second in as many days.
Down 2-1 entering the last of the third inning, the JetHawks exploded for six runs. Sam Hilliard highlighted the inning with a three-run homer on a 3-0 pitch, his third consecutive game with a long ball. He finished 9-for-20 in the series and raised his batting average to .313.
Brendan Rodgers extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a double in the opening inning, his first of three hits in the contest. He went 11-for-21 in the series and is now hitting .402. Roberto Ramos also collected three hits to raise his average to .348 and finish the series 10-for-16.
The JetHawks entered the home half of the seventh inning down 11-7 and scored one run, but left the bases loaded. Wes Rogers brought the run home with an RBI single. They added one in the eighth inning, but the 66ers scored two pivotal insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Lancaster scored once in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Wes Rogers, but left the tying run in the on-deck circle.
Peter Lambert (4-6) suffered the loss for Lancaster. He surrendered eight runs on 12 hits in 5.2 innings. Jose Rodriguez (6-5) picked up the win despite allowing seven runs on 10 hits in five innings. Garrett Nuss pitched the final two innings and earned his first save of the season.
The 66ers out-hit the JetHawks in the game, 18-17.

The JetHawks open a three-game series tonight against the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Hangar. Right-hander Jesus Tinoco (3-1) will start for Lancaster. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
