Hart District officials today confirmed that nearly 300 students formerly enrolled at the Albert Einstein Academy have transferred to Hart District schools.

The Einstein Academy’s second appeal to the courts to stay open is still pending.

Meanwhile, the nearly 300 students from AEA’s junior high and high school have transferred into the Hart District’s six comprehensive high schools, said Dave Caldwell, Hart district spokesman.

The mass influx created numerous challenges for administrators at all levels who spend all year planning on contingencies for the following year, Caldwell said, however, the district is doing its best to accommodate despite the logistical obstacles.

“When you have this kind of a situation and, yes, a couple of the schools had a larger than anticipated number of requests to go to those schools,” he said, “from a staffing standpoint, principals had to put the brakes on and say, ‘Hang on a second, let’s see what we can do.’”

Hart District caught by surprise? Did they think these students were just all going to be home schooled when the decided not to renew the charter?

Charter schools are public schools. The AEA test scores were second only to Academy of the Canyons in SCV.

All parent choice just got ripped by this takeover, not just aea parents. Follow the (A.D.A. ) money. They want the millions these kids will bring from the state’s average daily attendance, but bemoan having to place them. No wonder the public school monopoly continues to fail students, parents, and society. And parents: how about buying a smaller home and sacrifice for your kids so one parent can stay home to home school. Don’t use the excuse you pay tax money for public ed…you pay for many services you never use or pay out if pocket for something better. Be adults and do what is best for your kid whatever that might be.
