LANCASTER – Yonathan Daza homered for the second time in three games, but the Lancaster JetHawks fell behind early and never recovered in a 9-2 loss to the Stockton Ports on Friday night at The Hangar.
The Ports were up 8-0 by the end of the third inning. They scored two in the first, three in the second, and three in the third. Lancaster committed two errors in the opening frame.
Nate Mondou went 4-for-5 and came a home run shy of the cycle. He tripled in each of the first two innings before hitting a double in the third. He added a single in the fifth and scored three runs in the contest. Eli White hit a two-run homer to highlight the third inning for Stockton.
The JetHawks were held scoreless until the sixth. Sam Hilliard doubled with one out and later scored on a wild pitch. Daza added his solo homer in the eighth.
Norge Ruiz (1-0) earned the victory for Stockton with six strong innings. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits. He walked two and struck out three. Trey Killian (6-5) suffered the loss for the JetHawks. He went three innings and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out four.
Marc Magliaro and Carlos Polanco combined to pitch five scoreless innings out of the Lancaster bullpen before Polanco allowed a run in the ninth. Magliaro struck out one in his three scoreless frames and did not walk a batter.
