Bouquet Reservoir

Los Angeles is the proud host of the 2017 World Police and Fire Games. The games will be held from August 7th, 2017, to August 16th, 2017, at several locations throughout Los Angeles County. Over 8,000 athletes, representing more than 65 countries, will be competing in 65 Olympic-style sporting events.

On August 8th and 9th, the Acton, Agua Dulce, and Santa Clarita areas will host two cycling – road race events.

In order to ensure the safety of the participants, there will be several road closures which will result in substantial delays throughout the area.

Tuesday, August 8th, 2017 – CYCLING TIME TRIALS
On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm, a cycling time trial event will take place beginning and ending at Acton Park. The route will close Syracuse Avenue at Acton Park, Crown Valley Road south to Soledad Canyon Road, and Soledad Canyon Road west to Agua Dulce Canyon Road. This event will require the complete closure of these roads. Alternative routes should be considered.

Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 – 53 km CYCLING ROAD RACE
On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm, a 53 km cycling race will occur. This route will start and end at Acton Park. The course will go south on Crown Valley Road and then west along Soledad Canyon Road. It will turn north on Aqua Dulce Canyon Road to Davenport Road. The route will travel west on Davenport Road to Sierra Highway. The course will travel north bound on Sierra Highway to Ward Road (Red Rover exit of the 14 Freeway). It will then travel east on Escondido Canyon Road to Syracuse Avenue, ending at Acton Park. Roads will be closed approximately 15 minutes prior to the lead rider approaching the next section of roadway. Once all of the cyclists have cleared a section of roadway, it will be immediately opened for vehicular traffic. This event will require the complete closure of these roads. Alternative routes should be considered.

Unfortunately, access to businesses and private residences will be impacted. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience, but respectfully request your cooperation in ensuring the safety of the cyclists and success of this event. Please allow yourself plenty of time and plan ahead to ensure you are out of the impacted areas prior to their closure.

Really? The city of Los Angeles has taken control of the roads and streets of the Santa Clarita Valley? I can see that our City Council would wilt under this pressure, but most of these routes involve County roads. Has the LA County Bored of Stupervisors weighed in on this and strong-armed the rest of the politicos into this?

And what about the storm damage to streets and property in Acton and Agua Dulce after the Flash Flood today? That dang Metro Link is broken due to the flooding, so how are folks supposed to get around when the roads are closed as well?
