1962 - SCV residents vote to connect to State Water Project, creating Castaic Lake Water Agency (now part of SCV Water) [story]
Castaic Lake

Commentary by Betty Arenson
| Friday, Aug 11, 2017

Glancing at an overview of the past year and certainly since Jan. 20, I have to disagree that there is no bipartisanship in America today.

There indeed is, and it’s called anti-Trumpism.

There is no doubt the vast majority of Democrats and liberals loathe Trump. Certainly all of the leftists thoroughly hate him, and they have some company.

They’re called Republicans.

The latter group has no age specificity. They span from the likes of Sen. John McCain, 81 years old this month, and Sen. Mitch McConnell, 75, who’s been around since interning for a prior Kentucky Senator in 1964, to 54-year-old Sen. Jeff Flake.

Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are in the mix, but they’re always a crapshoot with their questionable conservatism.

The aforementioned are nothing less than a cohesive group, with one aim in mind: We cannot allow, let alone help, President Donald Trump be successful.

Trump campaigned as a non-politician with a take-no-prisoners style. He didn’t hide it. In spite of the obvious, critics continue to complain “he is not presidential.” Yes, we know, and that’s a big reason why he prevailed.

The harping is not authentic news, but it remains as if it is.

None of the detractors can afford a successful Trump. Democrats would lose their party and Republicans would see the old-boys-and-girls network diminish. Democrats simply hate him, and Republicans are angry because Trump didn’t pay his dues in the club, and it’s definitely not his turn.

Therein dwells the resentment and umbrage.

McCain could not beat the least qualified ever, no experience (but for voting present in the U.S. Senate for a few months), no business or leadership acumen and no real-life experience, man that ever ran for the office. But it was McCain’s turn.

McCain’s resulting bitterness is palpable.

That unspoken pecking order is how we got a Bob Dole candidacy in 1996. For the Democrats it was Hillary Clinton’s turn in 2008, but Obama surprisingly burgeoned, resulting in a definite her-turn in 2016.

Yes, there is bi-partisanship today, and quite unfortunately it has no relationship with making America better.

The only way to help the country is to return to the First Principles set forth by the Founders.

Liberty, individual responsibility, limited government, an environment where we truly are “Free To Choose.”

    OMG, woman!
    You’re delusional and without compassion.
Your privileged position on what makes our unique human condition great; is greatly lacking in reality.
You embarrass yourself with each word you type.
Our military and all elected officials take an oath to first
PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION………..at any point in time the many Generals in close proximity to #45 could indeed enforce the law(s) of the land.

  3. Michael says:

Well said Betty, the question dems should ask themselves, what is their end game if hating our president like a teenager scorned in love…either works or doesnt…both paths are defined by teenage emotions gone over board(hilary’s legacy).leaving their ability to reason…lifeless..unused….do they understand what rage does to one self…let alone their party gone down to the bottom of the ocean…
Repubics…are a lost cause and voters should remove spineless loosens with haste.

  4. millie bonazzoli says:

Aw, come on! He isn’t emotionally balanced or intellectually inquisitive. He says ignorant things like “thanks Putin, now I don’t have to pay 700 people” when in reality, they are employees of the government and will be paid if they live in Moscow or the US, let alone their families that have to move back find homes and schools… ignorant of US system!

  5. SCgal says:

Trump is a disaster for our country and a well deserved albatross around the necks of the morally bankrupt and ethically challenged Republican Party. One by one, they all fell in line, putting party before country; supporting this unqualified, unfit and dangerously unstable man baby. Only now, are they speaking out because midterm elections are coming very soon and their party may lose their majority in both the House and Senate. Of course, there is that pesty problem of collusion with Russia that Bob Mueller continues to pursue and the likelihood of Trump facing criminal charges including impeachment. And last but not least, the fact that Trump’s base has not expanded, and in fact, those foolish enough to vote against their own interests are now voicing their displeasure with Trump. His presidency is an embarrassment domestically and internationally. I personally look forward to the time when the GOP, is forced to answer the question, “how could you allow this to happen to the country you claim to love?”

  6. SCgal says:

Hey Betty, Trump is now being condemned by both political parties. That’s the bipartisanship I support. C’mon let’s hear you try to defend this vile, ignorant and disgraceful man now. There is no moral equivalency between Nazi sympathizer sand anyone else.

    • Michael says:

SCgal, everything you attack Trump on…and much worse…has been done by Hilary…and Barry…x100…
If he were exactly as you say…he is better than the pure evil that is Clinton…and Barry…you won’t see that cause you cannot think for yourself…you swallowed the pill 9yrs ago…head in ass…how many presidents have been taught, fed, clothed by a known domestic terrorist? Sat in a racist church and hip hip horray with captian insano for 20years? Wake the f..up you don’t deserve this freedom…how many terrorists did Barry meet with in our capital…
How many millions did he hand to them? Even on his last day of office he signed your/our hard earned millions…the Don canceled the last set of checks…Idiot? No…he can handle your simple hate speach…and your k8nd continue to use hate and Violence to battle everyone u disagree with…I too disagree with Nazi…and most liberals.

      • Michael says:

Barry condemned every form of terrorism..hatred..racism violence (make u feel better each time? )Made me sick…just talk…didn’t actually do anything…except love all of them…mmmm…feel good….
