SAN BERNARDINO – The Lancaster JetHawks scored seven runs in the fifth inning, propelling themselves to a 9-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Down 3-1 entering the fifth, the JetHawks (70-56, 32-24) sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on eight hits. Eight hits in an inning set a new season-high while seven runs matched the club’s high.
Wilson Soriano started the scoring with a two-run double, then scored on a Yonathan Daza triple. Sam Hilliard followed with a RBI-single to pick up his league-leading 83rd RBI of the season.
Nathan Bates relieved starter Erik Manoah (0-1) and yielded a run-scoring double to Roberto Ramos. Avery Romero later drew a bases-loaded walk and Soriano picked up the final run with his second hit of the inning.
Soriano finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI and a sac bunt. He’s now is now 7-for-8 in the series and 12-for-20 during the current seven-game road trip.
Trey Killian (11-8) allowed three solo home runs early in the game but picked up the win, tossing six innings to tie for the league lead with 11 wins. He allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out five and did not issue a walk.
Marc Magliaro struck out three over two scoreless innings of relief, and Max Schuh finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
Daza recorded a 2-for-4 night with two RBI. The performance marked his 51st multi-hit game of the season.
With the win, the JetHawks became the first team in the Cal League to 70 wins this season and moved one game ahead of Rancho Cucamonga for first place in the overall South Division standings.
