The Hart School District’s Career Visions program will host a parent information night Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sequoia Charter School for families of special education students.

The mission of the Career Visions program is to provide workforce preparation services to students with specific barriers to employment, including those receiving special education services that are actively enrolled in the District, including work training placements and direct hire opportunities.

The program posted impressive results in the 2010-2011 school year, with the program having reported delivery of workforce preparation services to almost 1,300 special needs students.

“Transition services are still a State mandate for all special education students,” said Program Supervisor Kevin Sarkissian. ” We recognize that parents have questions regarding the workforce preparation component of transition, and feel that this information night offers families a great forum in which to network and share ideas while allowing us to reinforce the importance of shared ownership in the work experience process.”

Program services are provided by a team of Career Transition Advisors whose focus is to assist this population in exploring different career pathways while in high school. The Career Visions team also plays an integral role in workforce preparation and community job placement leading to successful, long term employment outcomes.
