All schools in the Saugus Union School District will fly the flag at half-mast on Friday and/or Monday in honor of the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Each site will also participate in a moment of silence to commemorate these heroes.
In addition, the following events are scheduled at individual locations:
Bridgeport
Bridgeport will be celebrating with a Patriot’s Day Assembly on Sept. 9. We will be welcoming any parents, aunts, uncles, or relatives who have served in the armed forces, police, fire, or other community service providers to join us at 8:15 a.m. in the lunch area to commence our Patriots Day celebration. Students will be dressed in Red, White and Blue. The Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts will lead the flag salute and several classes and teachers will perform songs or tributes to mark the occasion.
Helmers
We are celebrating our special Hero Assembly on Sept. 12 at 8:00 a.m.. We have a soldier from Iraq who will be recognized as our special hero. A Scout troop will lead the flag assembly; students will recite poetry and sing of patriotic songs.
Cedarcreek
We will do a presentation on September 16 for Constitution Day during our Friday Flag Assembly. The focus will be on patriotism and the Constitution.
Highlands
We are doing our Patriot Day Commemorative Celebration at our Monday Morning Assembly on Sept. 12 at 8:15 a.m. We have sent personal invitations to all parents who are in the armed forces, law enforcement or fire fighters to come to campus Monday morning to be recognized. We asked that they come in uniform, if possible, and we will introduce them to the students as community heroes.
District Office
We are having our 5th annual blood drive on Oct. 24.
North Park
North Park will begin with a short reception for our service men and women in our MPR on Friday, September 9.We will then have a whole school assembly in front of the school beginning at 8:30 a.m. We will present each hero with a small lapel American flag pin, have them introduce themselves to the audience and say who their child is. The Girl Scouts will raise the flag and then lead us in the pledge of allegiance. Mr. Bland will read a short speech remembering and focusing on our heroes along with a proclamation from President Obama. We will have a moment of silence in remembrance of our heroes who gave their lives helping save others.We will also sing the Star Spangled Banner as a whole group.
Rosedell
Rosedell will be holding a Patriot Day ceremony on Friday, whereby we sing patriotic songs and thank our community heroes, such as nurses, military, police etc. These parents come in uniform and are recognized. All students in service organizations-Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. are encouraged to wear their uniforms to school and will lead us in flag salute. We also do a minute of silence for the 9/11 victims.
