Melissa Brigitte Brown, the driver arrested in connection with the July 4, 2010 crash that claimed the life of a fireworks spectator, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to vehicular manslaughter and running a red light.
Brown, 23, of Canyon Country, was charged in February in connection with the collision on Valencia Boulevard that killed 43-year-old Matilde Garnica and injured several other people during the city of Santa Clarita’s fireworks show.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Brown is accused of colliding with another vehicle when she allegedly ran a red light and lost control of her vehicle.
Brown was released on her own recognizance at a prior hearing Feb. 2. If convicted as charged, she faces six years in state prison, the District Attorney’s office said.
