A fire that started on a hill behind a house in Acton spread to nearby brush Wednesday at about 11:20 a.m. The fire was held to 1 acre and no structures burned.
The house is in the 9900 block of Soledad Pass Road east of Hillside Road, roughly 1.5 miles southeast of the Vincent Hill Metrolink Station between Acton “proper” and Palmdale.
Two Super Scoopers, three helicopters and 115 fire fighters were assigned to the blaze – standard operating procedure for a brush fire this summer.
Aircraft siphoned water from the Palmdale Reservoir and structure protection crews quickly moved into place to stave off direct threats to two homes.
Firefighters were challenged by a lack of water hookups as the fire crossed private property lines. By noon the fire was entirely on state-owned land.
Residents reported power outages, but power was restored by 12:07 a.m. when the Los Angeles County Fire Department declared knockdown.
The incident was named the “Pass” fire.
