The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission voted 4-1 to send the One Valley One Vision Santa Clarita Valley General Plan to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
The “OVOV” plan will serve as a guiding document to put the city of Santa Clarita and the county of Los Angeles on the same page when it comes to planning future roads, commercial centers, health and safety, open space and the like.
County 3rd District Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky’s appointee, Harold V. Helsley, cast the lone dissenting vote Wednesday. Helsley wanted more time to review concerns raised by representatives of Santa Clarita Organization for Planning and the Environment regarding future water availability in light of the recent closure of an existing water well due to perchlorate contamination.
County Planning Supervisor Mitch Glaser said the well was closed subsequent to the drafting of OVOV’s environmental documents, and it was addressed in follow-up reports.
Evidently Helsley only learned of the issue Wednesday.
Glaser said his staff will issue formal responses to all issues raised during testimony at Wednesday’s hearing. OVOV is tentatively scheduled to go to the Board of Supervisors Jan. 24 if all of the responses can be completed by that date, he said.
