Bouquet Reservoir

Jean-Guy Dube

The Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in the Santa Clara River Valley in 1887. During its march to the sea, Southern Pacific built several common standard depots along its route. From where we stand in Saugus to Ventura, Calif., and over time connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco with its new coastal route.

Historian Jean-Guy Dube will give a talk on the Southern Pacific Railroad Depots of the Santa Clara River Valley before the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. The talk will be held at the Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction within William S. Hart Park, a unit of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation System, 24101 Newhall Avenue, in Newhall, California.

This lecture will focus on some of these depots of the Santa Clara River Valley and will include their history, plans, features, building materials and their fates. In addition, Dube will display several blueprints of these depots that he has drafted over the past 10 years.

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is pleased to host Jean-Guy Dube at the Saugus Train Station. The general public is welcome. Admission is free. For more information on this and other upcoming programs from the SCVHS, call Pat Saletore or Alan Pollack at 661-254-1275. Website: www.scvhs.org.
