Two people were arrested for drunk driving at a 6-hour DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Thursday night on Soledad Canyon Road.
The checkpoint was located near the Golden Oak intersection, just east of Santa Clarita lanes.
A total of 1,282 vehicles went through the checkpoint between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Deputies gave field sobriety tests to seven drivers and arrested two for excessive alcohol consumption, Santa Clarita Traffic Sgt. Richard Cohen said. Both were over 21.
One of the two suspected drunk drivers had his car impounded. The other was legally parked, Cohen said.
In addition, seven citations were issued to unlicensed drivers and of those, five lost their vehicles for 30 days. Another 16 citations were issued for miscellaneous infractions.
One person was arrested for drunk driving at a checkpoint last week in Valencia. Local checkpoints are funded by the state Office of Traffic Safety.
