It’s a busy day for some of the boys basketball teams from the Santa Clarita Valley.
Four of the Foothill League teams are in action tonight, including red-hot Canyon which is coming off a championship run through the Ventura tournament.
Canyon plays Rio Mesa in the last preseason game before league play begins next week.
The Golden Valley boys are playing Camarillo. Saugus goes up against Oak Park. Hart is on the road and plays Culver City.
The Saugus girls basketball team has a tough road game against Chaminade tonight.
In college basketball, The Master’s College men lost to the Academy of Art University, 91-82. Anthony Cammon led all scorers with 27 points for The Master’s College.
The men are back at it again tonight against Fresno Pacific.
The Master’s College women lost to Westminster from Utah, 61-44. Whitney Best led The Master’s College with 15 points and was the only player to score in double figures.
The Master’s College women are also playing Fresno Pacific in a doubleheader at Bross Gymnasium.
In college football, the Oregon Ducks won a record-breaking Rose Bowl, 45-38, over the Wisconsin Badgers.
The two teams combined for 83 points and it was the highest-scoring game in Rose Bowl history. The previous record was 80 points in the 1991 Rose Bowl. Washington beat Iowa, 46-34.
Oregon won the Rose Bowl for the first time in 95 years. The Ducks beat Penn, 14-0, in 1917.
In the Fiesta Bowl, Oklahoma State beat Stanford, 41-38, in overtime. Hart High graduate Delano Howell made his final start at safety for Stanford. The senior has seven interceptions in his career at Stanford.
In the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, UCLA lost to Illinois, 20-14. The Bruins ended the season with a 6-8 record and three losses in a row.
The Kings lost to the visiting Colorado Avalanche, 2-1 in a shootout. It was the second loss in the past three games for the Kings.
Dustin Brown gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the second period with his 10th goal of the season. Ryan O’Reilly tied the score in the third period and sent the game into overtime. The Avalanche won the game, 1-0, in the shootout.
The Kings are back on the ice against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.
