Senior Jaya Schultz hit 4-of-5 late-game free throws to help lift the Canyon Cowboys to a 40-37 girls Foothill League basketball win over the Valencia Vikings Tuesday at Valencia.
The Cowboys and the Vikings have two high-powered offenses, averaging 56 and 58 points respectively on the season. But on this night, neither team could get their shots to fall.
Canyon (18-5, 6-1) opened the game with a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Valencia (13-11, 4-3) out-scored the Cowboys nine to four in the second quarter to cut Canyons lead to 17-13 at half.
The Vikings were able to tie the game at 35 late in the fourth, but Schultz hit her foul shots down the stretch to win it for the Cowboys. The 6-foot senior finished with 11 points.
Canyon was led by Tiffini Stone with 15.
Jennifer Anumba paced the Vikings with 12 points and Sandra Ikeora added ten.
The game will be televised on SCVTV Wednesday @ 6p.
