Clay Kasdorf made 15-of-16 free throws on his way to a game high 22 points as the Canyon Cowboys defeated the Valencia Vikings 67-50 in boys Foothill League basketball Tuesday night at Valencia.
As a team the Cowboys made 28-of 34 free throws (82%) while the Vikings were 7-of-13.
But the difference for Canyon (20-3, 5-2) may have been their defense. The Cowboys limited Troy Hammel, Valencia’s leading scorer who has averaged over 22 points per game, to just 11. Hammel fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. Zach Davis and Parker Tredick each added ten for Valencia (15-8, 3-4).
The Cowboys also added seven 3-pointers in the game, including three by Coley Apsay, who finished with 18. Sophomore Dean Hendrix-Davis added 15 for the Cowboys.
The win sets up what will be the biggest game of the season to date as Canyon travels to West Ranch Friday. The Wildcats entered Tuesday night’s action in first place at 5-1, a game ahead of the Cowboys. The game will be televised on SCVTV Wednesday @ 8p.
