A little bit of controversy now surrounds last Friday night’s boys Foothill League basketball game between the Canyon Cowboys and the West Ranch Wildcats.
It was a packed gym, a big game between the two top teams in the league, and a close, back and forth battle. Late in the game that aired on SCVTV, West Ranch head coach Shant Bicakci came racing down the court to call a timeout in front of the Canyon bench.
That in itself should have been called a technical foul as the uber-exuberant Bicakci was well outside his coach’s box. The Canyon coaches knew this and objected, causing Bicakci to turn against the Cowboys coaches.
“Shut the f— up,” Bicakci shouted. “Don’t f—ing touch me!”

Canyon assistant coach Jeremy Haggerty can be seen stepping in front of Bicakci and the two had to be separated by coaches and players alike.
Hart district officials say they have received complaints about Bicakci’s behavior and choice of words. Monday afternoon the 24-year-old Bicakci, in his first year as the Wildcats head coach, said he was sorry for what happened.
“Obviously, I apologize for my actions,” Bicakci said. “I have tremendous respect for Coach Phillips and his coaching staff. We talked after the game and everything’s good. I’ve been close with those guys for a while. (It was) heat of the moment type stuff and it won’t happen again.”
No word from the district offices on any action they might take.
The game was first aired on SCVTV Friday at 10 p.m and can be seen this week.

The game itself was a double-overtime thriller, won by Canyon 98-90. The Cowboys Clay Kasdorf finished with a career-high 48 points.
The Wildcats Kevin Harris had a hot hand as well hitting 10-of-13 3-pointers on his way to a career-best 38 points.
