The internationally acclaimed U.S. Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club will appear in concert in Santa Clarita, Calif. Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. during the first stop of their 10-day spring break performing tour.

The concert theme is “A Salute to America’s Heroes,” and will be held at the Northpark Community Church, located at 28310 Kelly Johnson Parkway, Santa Clarita, Calif. 91355.   The concert is free and no tickets are required; doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club, under the direction of Ms. Cindy Bauchspies regularly travels around the country representing the Naval Academy. The glee club has received national acclaim for public appearances in Phoenix, Ariz.; Chicago, Ill.; and most recently, a national television broadcast of the Veteran’s Day Ceremony in New York City.  A 10-day visit to Brazil in 2010 garnered the club international acclaim from both ambassadors and state department officials.

“This will be our first visit to this part of California and to be able to bring our midshipmen to perform a concert to honor those who have served means a lot to our glee club members because they will each serve as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps upon graduation from the Naval Academy,” said Bauchspies.

In addition to the concert at Northpark Community Church, the glee club will be visiting several area high schools, appearing with the Dana Point Symphony Orchestra in Dana Point, Calif. on Friday, March 9 and participating in a 10:20 a.m. Sunday Worship Service on March 11 at the Wintersburg Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana.

Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy today is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to be professional officers in the naval service.  More than 4,400 men and women representing every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries make up the student body, known as the Brigade of Midshipmen.

Midshipmen learn from military and civilian instructors and participate in intercollegiate varsity sports and extracurricular activities. They also study subjects like small arms, drill, seamanship and navigation, tactics, naval engineering and weapons, leadership, ethics and military law.  Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a tax-payer funded Bachelor of Science degree in a choice of 23 different subject majors and go on to serve at least five years of exciting and rewarding service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps.

About the Women’s Glee Club

The United States Naval Academy WOMEN’S GLEE CLUB was founded in l976 when women first entered the Naval Academy. Under the direction of Ms. Cindy Bauchspies, the ensemble performs a diverse repertoire which includes classical, sacred, folk, patriotic, popular, and Broadway music. They have performed across America and internationally, including recent tours to Florida, California, Hawaii, New York, North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Rome, and London. In addition to the Academy’s annually sold-out concerts of Handel’s Messiah with the Annapolis Symphony (often nationally and internationally broadcast), the Women’s Glee Club performs masterpieces of choral-orchestral literature joining with the Naval Academy Men’s Glee Club. Recent repertoire has included Orff’s Carmina Burana, Requiems by Brahms, Mozart and Verdi, Haydn’s Creation, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, and Ralph Vaughan-Williams’ A Sea Symphony among many others. Recent notable appearances include the Inaugural Concert “We Are One” performed on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for a live audience of over half a million people and an internationally televised audience, the Official National Dedication Ceremony of the Pentagon Memorial, concert tours of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, FL, and numerous performances at the Naval Academy. Their official visit to Brazil this past spring has been hailed as providing, “more positive results for the relations of both countries than that of a mighty aircraft carrier visit.”
