UPDATE: All lanes reopened at 8 p.m. and the Siglert was canceled. The two left lanes had been opened to traffic at 2:25 p.m., but they were shut again at 5:30 p.m. to fish the big-rig out of the ditch and get it back on its wheels. Traffic was diverted off of I-5 at Valencia Boulevard during the closure.
Southbound Interstate 5 is completely closed at Valencia Boulevard due to a big-rig that overturned and spilled its load of butane fluid.
Officer Tatiana Sauquillo of the California Highway Patrol said the tractor-trailer overturned at 1:06 p.m. on the freeway between Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway. She said the flammable liquid spilled into traffic lanes.
Two hazmat trucks and several ladder and pump trucks from Los Angeles County Fire Stations 124, 73 and 126 were handling the incident.
Cars and trucks that got stuck behind the crash were being turned around by CHP, driving north in the southbound lanes to exit at Valencia Boulevard.
The day shift at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station was held over pending further notice.
