The Saugus softball team reached the semifinals of the prestigious Tournament of Champions in Arizona, but lost to Pacifica from Garden Grove, 3-2. The Centurions finished in fourth place in the tournament after losing to Chino Hills, 3-2, in the third-place game.

Saugus beat Centennial, South Hills and Chino earlier in the 32-team tournament.

The Valencia softball team finished in 10th place after a 4-1 loss to Los Alamitos.

Norco, the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 softball poll, won the Tournament of Champions.

In soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat will have a familiar face on its roster when the W-League women’s soccer season begins in May.

Edite Fernandes, the Portuguese national team captain, will return for her second season with the Blue Heat. She was fourth in scoring and an MVP finalist in the W-League last season.

In addition, Ana Borges and Laura Luis, both members of the Portuguese national team, will join the Blue Heat in 2012.

In high school tennis, the Valencia boys beat Camarillo, 14-4, and swept all nine of their doubles matches.

The Saugus boys lost to Chaminade, 14-4.

In high school volleyball, Golden Valley swept Village Christian in three games. Alec Schlossman had 22 kills to lead Golden Valley.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Angels, 9-1, in a Cactus League game in Arizona. Juan Rivera hit his second home run of the spring and drove in four runs for the Dodgers.

Justin Sellers also homered for the Dodgers.

Hart High grad and Tampa Bay Rays ace James Shield pitched four shutout innings against the Twins in spring training in Florida. But the Rays lost to the Twins, 2-1, in 10 innings.

Shields struck out two, walked two and gave up three hits.

In hockey, the Kings are home for a game against the Detroit Red Wings tonight.

The Kings have won four of their past six games and are coming off a 3-2 shootout win over Chicago Blackhawks.

Listen to the game between the Kings and the Red Wings on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
