The Canyon softball team used Lexi Lotito power to win the High Desert Classic in Lancaster.
Lotito hit two three-run home runs and earned tournament MVP.
She drove in four runs in a 5-1 win over Quartz Hill in the championship game of the tournament. In addition to hitting a three-run homer, she drove in another run with a triple.
Lotito hit a three-run home run in a 4-2 win over West Ranch in the semifinals.
Canyon pitcher Hayley Bottino won both games. She was selected to the all-tournament team. Courtney Ziese and Paige Johnson also made the all-tournament team.
The Saugus softball team won the third-place game in the High Desert Classic, 9-1, over West Ranch. The game was called after five innings.
Karlee Bickford drove in two runs against West Ranch and was selected to the all-tournament team. Hailey Yacovone was 3-for-3 and drove in a run for Saugus.
The Hart girls swim team finished in third place in the Southern Section Relays at Capistrano Valley High School. University High from Irvine won the meet. Hart scored 218 points to University’s 264.
The Hart girls team of Nicolette Barreiro, Asia Antoniuk, Mik Ranslem and Tamara Santoyo won the 4×50 butterfly relay.
In auto racing, Alex Tagliani, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Izod IndyCar Series season opener in St. Petersburg, Fla., finished in 15th place.
Helio Castroneves won the race, the third IndyCar Series win of his career at St. Petersburg.
In the Firestone Indy Lights race, Troy Castaneda, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished in ninth place in the race at St. Petersburg in his first start for the team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta.
Tristan Vautier won the race leading every lap from the pole.
Tony Stewart won the rain-shortened NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 400 in Fontana. It was his second win at Auto Club Speedway.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-1, in a Cactus League game in Arizona. Tony Gwynn Jr. drove in the Dodgers’ only run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Clayton Kershaw went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked two.
In hockey, the Kings are in Vancouver for a game against the Canucks tonight. The Kings lost to the Boston Bruins, 4-2, on Saturday night and had their six-game winning streak snapped.
