A Saugus High School student has a new set of wheels following a raffle held Monday night.
Saugus High School sophomore Townsend Kaneversky was one of thousands of Hart School District students entered into a raffle for a shot at winning a 2012 Nissan Versa, courtesy of Nissan of Valencia.
“It’s exciting,” Kaneversky said. “I’ve never had a car before.”
The Saugus High student first learned of the giveaway on the Saugus News Network, the school’s morning closed-circuit television program.
“They really encouraged people to come tonight and join and sign up,” he said.
An hour before the event, Kaneversky had hoped to go home with another prize, but he set his hopes on the car.
He was shocked when his name was called.
“I froze up for a second and then my friends said, ‘It’s you!’, and I said, ‘Whoa!’” the teenager said with a smile.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” he said.
“I love doing it,” said Daniel Sterkel, Nissan of Valencia’s general manager. “I love giving back to the community.”
Sterkel’s ultimate goal with the event was to bring awareness to the car dealership”s community efforts.
“It exceeded my expectations,” he said.
Kaneversky hopes to get his driver’s license soon.
