Bouquet Reservoir

It was nearly a clean sweep for the Valencia boys golf team at TPC Valencia.

The Vikings won the Newhall Cup and the final Foothill League match of the season.

Valencia’s Jonathan Chang shot the low round of the day, a 2-over 74, and won individual title in the Newhall Cup for the third year in a row. He also wrapped up the league MVP.

West Ranch spoiled Valencia’s big day on the golf course by winning the Foothill League title, even though the Wildcats finished in third in the match.

Valencia won the match with a team score of 390. Saugus was five strokes back at 395. West Ranch shot 400 as a team.

All three teams qualified for the CIF Southern Section Northern Team Regional next week.

In high school softball, West Ranch has emerged as the leader in the Foothill League standings after Thursday’s games.

The Wildcats shut out Valencia, 4-0, behind a gem from starter Bailey Foster. She tossed a four-hitter and the Wildcats won their seventh game in a row.

Jennifer Metcalf and Janelle Lindvall each hit two-run doubles for West Ranch.

The Hart softball team broke up a three-way for first place in the Foothill League standings by beating Saugus, 7-4. Saugus, the reigning Foothill League champion, entered the day tied with Valencia and West Ranch for first place.

The Canyon softball team beat Golden Valley, 13-1, in a five-inning game. Lexi Lotito hit two grand slams and drove in eight runs for Canyon.

Paige Johnson also homered and drove in two runs.

In high school track and field, the Golden Valley boys won the final league meet of the season and earned a share of the Foothill League title. Golden Valley narrowly beat Canyon, 68-67, at Canyon High School.

Golden Valley, Canyon and Hart finished in a tie for first place in league, all with 4-1 records.

The Canyon girls won the Foothill League championship for the first time since 2002.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Sacramento Kings, 113-96, in the final game of the regular season. Most of the starters for the Lakers, including Kobe Bryant, sat out the game.

The Lakers are the third seed in the NBA Western Conference playoffs and open against the Denver Nuggets. Game 1 is at Staples Center on Sunday at 12:30.

The Clippers are the fifth seed in the playoffs and play the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round starting on Sunday.
