It was a good day in sports for West Ranch High School.
The baseball, softball and volleyall teams all had reasons to celebrate.
The West Ranch baseball team won its first Foothill League championship with a 6-3 win over Saugus.
J.C. Cloney pitched the complete game and didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning. He also drove in the Wildcats first run in the third inning.
In other Foothill League baseball games, Hart beat Golden Valley, 8-5. Luke Persico had two hits for Hart.
The Valencia baseball team beat Canyon, 6-4. The Vikings scored five runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.
The West Ranch softball team won its first Foothill League championship, 7-6, over Hart. Lauren Lindvall had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for West Ranch.
The West Ranch boys volleyball team won its first playoff match, downing Righetti in four games. Ben Davis had 14 kills to lead West Ranch in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.
The Valencia volleyball team, the No. 4 seed in the Division II playoffs, also won its first round match. The Vikings eliminated Knight from Lancaster in a three-game sweep.
The Saugus volleyball team lost to Arroyo Grande in five games in the first round of the Division II playoffs. Saugus won the first two games of the match, but lost the next three. Arroyo Grande won the fifth and deciding game, 15-11.
Max Nua had 20 kills to lead the Centurions.
In high school tennis, Hart lost to Glendale, 11-7, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.
In the NBA playoffs, the Lakers are headed back to Denver. The Nuggets are alive for another day after beating the Lakers, 102-99, in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Kobe Bryant scored 43 points and led a furious, fourth-quarter comeback. But the Lakers fell short and are headed back to Denver for Game 6 on Thursday night.
