Nadia Link scores in the fourth minute

[Blue Heat] – In their second game and first road trip of the season, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat notched their first win at the expense of the Los Angeles Strikers on Sunday evening, 4-1 at Occidental College.

The first goal came quickly for the Blue Heat in the 4th minute of play with  scoring off of an Ana Borges assist. In the 40th minute, Portuguese National Laura Luis struck with a well-timed 25 yard shot to goal to bring the Blue Heat up by 2-0. Just before the end of the half, forward Sam Johnson put the Strikers on the board, 2-1.

Five minutes into the second half, Edite Fernandes sent a solid pass to Ana Borges who scored the third goal for the Blue Heat. Shortly thereafter, the Blue Heat struck for the fourth time with Fernandes scoring her first goal of the season off a Laura Luis assist. Goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo had several noteworthy saves and her defensive line displayed solid performances by Kayla Kret, Katie Russ, Taylor Ramirez and Sydney Vermillion.

“After last week’s tough loss to Pali, I was so pleased with the commitment of our team to pull together during the week and step up for this game,” said Head Coach Charles Martinez. “Our players were connecting quite well with each other and were much more solid in the midfield, which was the key to controlling our attack and the counter attacks. We will continue to build on this for Saturday’s rematch against Pali.”

The Blue Heat will visit the Pali Blues next Saturday, June 2, at Palisades High School at 4 p.m. before returning home on June 10 to battle the Victoria Highlanders. Visit www.SCBlueHeat.com or facebook.com/scblueheat for schedules, photos, highlights and ticket information.
