Double-stabbing suspect Raymundo Soto,35, will be held to answer on four counts including the attempted murder of Daniel Muir in his Canyon Country home. During a preliminary hearing Monday June 11 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown Los Angeles, the prosecution was required to show evidence before Judge Terry A. Bork that Soto should stand trial.

According to Muir, he, his wife, Detective Brandon Painter and another sheriff’s deputy each took the stand. After giving testimony and being cross examined Judge Bork ordered that there was sufficient evidence for Soto to stand trial on all four charges: 1) Attempted murder; 2) Assault with a Deadly Weapon; 3) Carrying a concealed firearm; 4) Carrying a loaded firearm in public. The first two are felony counts, the second two are misdemeanors.

According to sheriff’s officials during the early evening of February 29 the alleged victim, Muir, returned to his home at the 28800 block of Loretta Lane in Canyon Country. Muir, who hadn’t been home in a year, discovered that his wife, Jessica Jackson, 30, was now living in the home with Soto.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. rescue personnel from Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call to the home for a stabbing victim. What authorities discovered were two victims with stab wounds.

Muir contends he was gathering his belongings with the intention of leaving the house when he was allegedly attacked by Soto with a knife. Muir suffered eight stab wounds but managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s home for help.

Although Soto also had stab wounds, authorities suspect those injuries were self-inflicted. Both men were transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Hospital.

Soto was taken into custody on April 4 and was found in possession of a firearm which lead to additional charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed firearm within city limits.

Jackson was arrested on the same day as Soto, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office did not file charges. She was released on April 6.

At his first arraignment Soto pleaded not guilty. At the next arraignment hearing June 25 he will be asked to plea a second time. This time the hearing will be before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Partricia Schnegg in Department 100.

  1. What a confusing article! Why was Jessica arrested if she was one of the victims? And where did Soto “return home” from? Was he an ex-con? More research is needed, journalists!

  2. Bouncer123 says:

Margaret, Jackson was not a victim. Also it was not Soto who returned home after a year it was Muir, and is the reason for the absence relevant? Wether he returned home from serving in Iraq or serving time in prison, nobody has a right to attempt to take another persons life.
