ZONE 7 – CANYON COUNTRY WEST

This past week, Zone 7 (Canyon Country West) had (2) Aggravated Assaults, (1) Residential Burglary, (1) Commercial Burglary, (1) Theft From Vehicle, (1) Attempt Theft From Vehicle, (4) Grand Thefts, (1) Grand Theft/Auto and (1) Attempt Grand Theft Auto.

Two of the Grand Thefts that occurred in Zone 7 were Internet fraud-related. I just wanted to touch on how important it is to be careful when dealing with internet transactions or clicking on email links. We all utilize these for one reason or another, however with the ease and convenience of purchasing and selling items, comes the ease and convenience of fraud and theft.

Do not send anyone a check through the mail for promised goods upon receipt of the check. Be cautious when dealing with people who request Western Union transactions or money orders for an out of state item. It is always best to physically see the item, in person, however you must obviously use caution when dealing with an unknown. If possible, meet in a well lit/well populated area in order to help ensure your chances of a safe transaction.

We all love the convenience the internet provides for us. However, when it comes to protecting your money/goods, use the same caution you would if you were actually walking into a retail store. Keep your credit card/checking information by your side, as you would your wallet/purse, until you are absolutely certain your purchase can be made safely.

ZONE 4 – SAUGUS

This week we had two residential burglaries. One was from the 22000 block of Mason Court and the other was from the 27000 block of Ron Ridge. Both locations are only 1.4 miles away from each other and occurred on the same day. The times of both burglaries were between 10:00 am – 9:00pm on Thursday, 06/07/12. There is a strong connection between the burglaries due to the time frame, day and locations being so close. Just keep in mind that multiple residential burglaries occur during the day. Please make sure that your house is secure when you leave for the day. Try to note any suspicious people in the area that you do not recognize. Report any suspicious persons to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station by calling (661) 255-1121.

There was one theft from unlocked vehicle at the 27000 block of Santa Clarita Rd. with possible suspect information. Santa Clarita Station Detectives are actively working the case. This is a lower number than in recent weeks. Please remember to lock your car and move all items of value away from the windows.

Zone 3 – Stevenson Ranch/Westridge/Sunset Pointe:

Snapshot of the past two weeks, 06/04/2012 through 06/17/2012

As the leader for Zone-3 it is my goal to keep you informed of the very latest crime trends and public safety information. I am pleased to tell you that the solid partnerships between the community and law enforcement are paying big dividends right now as crime in the residential areas is very low. The Zone-3 communities continue to hold some of the lowest crime rates in Southern California however, the commercial areas within this Zone have experienced an increase in thefts, both inside the retail establishments and outside in the parking lots this year.

During the late evening hours on 06/08/2012, a commercial burglary occurred at a vacant restaurant located at the 25900 block of The Old Road. Restaurant supplies were stolen.

Between 06/06/2012 and 06/07/2012, a flat-bed trailer was stolen from a storage area at Henry Mayo Drive/HWY 126.

In the afternoon of 6/8/2012, a shoplift-burglary occurred at a clothing store at the 25900 block of The Old Road. The suspect, described as an adult female/Hispanic, stole numerous articles of clothing and then fled in a white GMC SUV that was driven by an additional suspect.

In the evening hours, between 6/13/2012 and 6/14/2012, a Big-Rig truck was stolen from the 22400 block of The Old Road. It was later recovered in another jurisdiction.

Magic Mountain incidents: During this period there were three reported incidents of theft occurring from the platforms of various rides at the park. In each case, personal items such as cell phones, I-Pods, wallets, and purses were stolen. Additionally, there were two reported vehicle burglaries which occurred in the Magic Mountain parking areas. Visitors to the Park are urged to secure their valuables in the lockers rather than leave them on the Ride platforms where they are vulnerable to theft. As always, you should never leave valuables in your automobile in plain view.
