A 45-year old woman lost control of her vehicle Sunday morning and started a solo vehicle demolition derby that she is lucky to have survived.
Around 1 a.m., the woman allegedly lost control of her car near Lowes at Golden Valley Road and Via Princessa, hitting a tree, a power pole and a fire hydrant.
In the crash, the axle and a wheel became detached from the vehicle, rolling down the embankment and crashing through the window of the Bank of Santa Clarita.
But it didn’t stop there.
The wheel hit the counter, bounced up and damaged the ceiling, smashed back down on the counter and popped open a money drawer.
The woman, who was identified as Sonya Byrne, complained of neck and back pain when help arrived and she was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Sgt. Ron Price said that she was released some time Sunday afternoon. He added that traffic investigators are looking into filing charges against her for the damage with the District Attorney’s office.
